Masons Bay

At the top of the sand boat ramp
Masons Bay is about 30Km east of Hopetoun accessible by a mixture of bitumen and gravel roads. Only the last 10 Km is badly corrugated and necessitates slowing down to 30-40 Kph. It’s worth the slow drive in – great sites either under the Peppermint trees on the beachfront or in the dedicated camping bays just up from the beach.

I think that's my toothbrush!
Since we were last at Masons Bay the Shire has done a lot of work creating about 20 new camping bays, all with concrete fire rings and installing two new toilet blocks (still long-drop but the best and cleanest we have seen for some time). The Shire has also been liberal with campfires – only banned for December and January unless there is a declared total fire ban (bring your own wood as there is none near the camp).

Beaut hard white sand
We went for long walks along the white beaches every morning and afternoon much to the delight of our new mutt Molly. Fishing was a little quiet with only a few very small herring caught. There didn’t seem to be as many “old timers” out in their little tinnies this visit so not sure how the fishing was out in the bay.

Nice spot – recommended. Link to a Short Video here.
